360° panorama, Blausee, Neukirchen
Tucked away in a forest at the entrance to Obersulzbach Valley is the Blausee. An impressive body of water located amid a nature sanctuary, distinguished by its turquoise-green color and surrounded by a picturesque forest of spruce, fir, larch and alder.
The very popular recreation area was severely damaged by storms of recent years. The infrastructure (benches, tables and trash collection) has since been replaced and modernized. Other improvements include better parking opportunities, exclusion of grazing cattle, as well as construction of grill areas and WC’s.
The lake itself has been dredged, creating the necessary habitat for fish and amphibians. The Blausee is renowned for its unique flora and fauna.
The area next to the lake has been made more attractive, including the addition of information and theme boards.
A cooperation between the market town of Neukirchen, Neukirchen Tourist Office and the National Park Authority, led by Michael Steindwender of the Austrian Forestry Service within the framework of an EU Leader Program, made it possible to realize this project.
Our desire is to make this precious natural jewel available to the local population and our guests, in the hope that this sensitive area will be used with the necessary and nurturing respect it deserves.
