The canal, built between 1845 and 1850, connects the eastern part of the Spree in Friedrichshain with the western one in Charlottenburg. The Landwehr Canal is an iconic 10-kilometer stretch of water that passes right through Berlin. It flows through the Tiergarten, the largest part of Kreuzberg, circles Neukölln and finally flows back into the Spree in Friedrichshain. All Berliners remember this special canal, and the long, luxurious shores can be enjoyed all year round.
