The friar Antonio de Montesinos was a big supporter of the Taino Indians . The monument in Santo Domingo that honors the memory of Fray Antonio de Montesinos was donated to the country by Mexico in 1982 . On the upper terrace of the monument , it is contemplated a giant statue representing Montesinos when gesticulating in his Advent sermon at the entrance to the port city .
