Pharmacy Museum, Schiltach, 360 Black Forest, Germany

This panorama took place as part of the Virtual Reality tour through the Black Forest. The pharmacy museum in Schiltach has emerged from the former council pharmacy on the market square, which had already been founded in 1837.
In 1985, it was closed as a pharmacy and reopened as a museum in 1989 while retaining its characteristic spatial design.

View of the pharmacy museum

The officinality, which is already a particularly worthy sight, in the form of beef-wooded rootwood furnishing with all that belongs to it, is supplemented by insights into the working world of former pharmacist generations in the laboratory and the pharmacist.

A combined distillation plant is particularly impressive. It conveys the immense amount of work that was previously required in pharmacies for the production of distillates, decoctions, infusions and extracts.

Furthermore, the diverse and typical working device for the production of pills, suppositories and ointments is shown. Even those devices which have been developed for the processing of medicinal herbs are presented in their functions.

In showcases there are also topics from the whole pharmaceutical sector: collections of powder cans or inhalers, travel pharmacies of all sizes and equipment or even exotic matters like a frame for the correction of crooked noses.

Early attempts to advertise all these pharmaceutical matters accompany their exhibition and illustrate their use. Topics such as the discovery of bacteria and the impact of this discovery on the pharmaceutical sector of pharmacists are deepened by special exhibitions.
